Medigap basics
How Medigap works in Florida
- A Medicare Supplement policy pays after Original Medicare on eligible costs such as the Part B coinsurance.
- There is no provider network — any provider that accepts Medicare assignment, anywhere in the U.S.
- Standardized plan letters mean the benefits of Plan G are the same across carriers.
- Premiums vary widely by county and carrier.
- Rate increase history is worth reviewing alongside the first-year premium.

Generally the six months starting the month you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. During this window carriers generally cannot use health questions to decline or rate you.
Guaranteed Issue situations

Outside those windows
Applications may be subject to medical underwriting, which varies by carrier. A licensed agent can explain how it may apply to you.
Florida considerations
Questions Florida residents ask
Why do quotes differ so much across Florida counties?
Carriers price Medigap by rating area, age, tobacco use, and household status, so the same plan letter can carry different premiums in different counties.
Can I use my Florida policy while visiting family up north?
Yes. Coverage travels with Original Medicare anywhere in the United States that accepts Medicare.
